Greens welcome €500,000 for Galway Gaeltacht projects

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD announced today that €660,000 has been approved for over 20 capital projects in the Gaeltacht areas throughout the counties of Galway, Kerry, Donegal and Mayo.  €496,684 has been allocated to support projects within the Galway Gaeltacht for organisations and clubs to carry out renovation works in addition to purchasing equipment.

Senator Pauline O’Reilly Green Party Leader in the Seanad said that she “welcomed Minister Catherine Martin’s commitment to the Galway Gaeltacht to improve Irish language services, much of which are provided on a voluntary basis.  I congratulate the successful projects.  It has been a very difficult year for community groups.  Projects include a new community centre for Inis Meáin.

“I will continue to advocate for language supports for Galway.  It’s absolutely vital that we put funding behind our volunteers, particularly now during Covid which has placed a great burden on communities”.
